WORCESTER City's FA Vase showdown against Coventry United will go to a penalty shootout at the first time of asking if there is a draw after extra-time.

The fourth round clash, which takes place at the Victoria Ground, Bromsgrove, a week on Sunday (January 12), will be finished on the day after City agreed to United's request for no replay.

FA Vase rules dictate extra-time gets played in each tie with an option to go to penalties if both clubs agree in advance for all rounds up to and including the quarter-finals.

It is the first time this season that City has considered taking the option with manager Ashley Vincent unfazed by the prospect.

“It is the first time we have been offered it," said Vincent.

"We haven’t asked for it this season and were happy to go to replays, even if it would have suited us having been drawn at home in a few of the rounds so far.

“Pitches, playing top or bottom sides, home or away, it makes no odds to me, I want my team to go out and perform wherever we end up so it doesn’t concern me.

“It was not something we asked for. Coventry United requested it, we were happy to go with a one-off game and would have been if we had been drawn to play at their place.

“We want the job done in 90 minutes but if it takes extra-time or penalties then we are at home and the boys are familiar with the surroundings. Fair play to Coventry United, they feel the same.

“There is no advantage to be gained by being difficult. We will go and play anyone from higher or lower levels, top of the league or struggling, home or away.

"I expect us to put on a good performance, more than compete and go and win games. The rules on the day won't change that.”

It is the only fourth round tie to be listed as being decided on the day so far, although clubs can agree to do so up to 45 minutes before kick-off.

The match has been scheduled for the Sunday due to landlords Bromsgrove Sporting hosting Tamworth 24 hours earlier.

Five victories to date have scooped City £4,125 in prize money with another £1,875 available against United, currently top of the Midland Football League and 1-0 winners at the Victoria Ground in October.
