HEREFORD FC gained revenge for their Boxing Day defeat with a 2-1 derby win over National League North rivals Kidderminster Harriers at Edgar Street.

The New Year's Day triumph arrived courtesy of Victor Sodiende's penalty and a Cliff Moyo own goal which meant Ashley Hemmings' late strike proved just a consolation.

It was the Bulls' first league win since October 1 and arrived after losing 3-1 at Aggborough in the post-Christmas encounter.

On his first appearance this season young home keeper Brandon Powell spilled Hemmings’ 19th-minute effort before Kieran Thomas cleared.

But the Bulls otherwise showed encouraging signs and Sodiende saw his effort blaze off team-mate Kelsey Mooney.

At the other end Richard Peniket came within an inch of heading Harriers ahead after meeting Ryan Johnson’s cross.

Harriers enjoyed more of the ball and in the 39th minute Alex Prosser's corner into a crowded box was headed goalwards by defender Moyo only to be cleared off the line by Stephen Dawson.

And the Bulls took a 51st-minute lead thanks to Sodeinde's penalty.

Jason Pope’s free-kick came back for Jordan Cullinane-Liburd who was taken down as he shot and Sodeinde made no mistake from the spot.

The visitors responded with Hemmings denied by a Thomas challenge before Peniket headed over under pressure.

Sodiende had a chance to double the lead but fired his volley over from a Jared Hodgkiss cross.

Harriers midfielder Ed Williams almost levelled in the 72nd minute with a stabbed effort wide from inside the box.

As the Bulls looked to secure the victory Sodiende had two efforts go close.

And then in the 80th minute the experienced Dawson jinked his way into the box before crossing for Moyo to put the ball into his own net.

In the first of six minutes of injury-time Harriers pulled a goal back as Hemmings' free-kick flew into the net but Hereford held on to go above their 17th-placed rivals to 15th in the table.
