FA VASE LIVE: Worcester City v Coventry United

Our live feed has now finished.

  • MARCO Adaggio’s deadly double fired City to within three rounds of Wembley in a 2-1 victory over league rivals Coventry United.
  • In customary fashion, Worcester did it the hard way after Sam Hall diverted into his own net during the opening exchanges but fans’ favourite Adaggio was the hero, plundering a double to turn the tide by half-time.
  • There were moments of pressure in the second half, not least a credible penalty appeal that left United incensed but City saw through a win that sets up a mouthwatering tie with lower-ranked Atherstone Town in the last 16 on February 8.
  • The night started in the worst possible way when Hall attempted to clear the ball only for it to slice of his foot and roll into the empty net inside the opening seven minutes.
  • City began to compose themselves after a rocky opening with Luke English in particular getting some joy down the right wing.
  • But it was from the left that City got back into the game when Adaggio headed home Dan Okojie’s pin-point cross to level the score and 10 minutes later the hosts led.
  • A scramble in the box somehow ended up at the feet of Adaggio who could not miss from a matter of yards, sliding past Reece Francis in the United goal.
  • City dominated the remainder of the half and could have extended their lead through Demetri Brown had it not been for a good save by the ex-Bromsgrove Sporting stopper.
  • The game began to get scrappy in the second half with a pitch that cut up not helping matters.
  • Coventry had the better chances but through good defending from City and some rather fortunate bounces, they failed to create clear-cut chances.
  • The final ten minutes saw a few scuffles off the ball and some goal mouth scrambles and United wanted a penalty when English looked to have fouled but the referee waved it away.
  • But City saw out the game professionally i the end, prompting jubilant scenes with ecstatic players and fans with the Wembley dream well and truly alive.
