EVESHAM United celebrated their first win of 2020 with an entertaining 5-3 success at Mangotsfield United.

The Robins moved level on points with Cirencester Town in eighth place in BetVictor Southern League Division One South as a result of Saturday's success.

Evesham had previously lost four games in the new year before picking up a 1-1 draw at Winchester City on January 25.

The Robins led 2-0 at the break at Mangotsfield through Lee Chilton after 19 minutes and loanee Jamie Lucas on the half-time whistle.

Chilton put the visitors in front by glancing a goal-bound shot into the net.

After a number of opportunities went begging Evesham deservedly doubled their lead when a Daniele Bragoli cross was tapped home from close range by Lucas.

James Ollis put the Mangos back in the game six minutes after the restart with a header from close range.

However, Paul Sullivan then made it 3-1 just shy of the hour mark against a side whose manager Ollie Price had resigned before kick-off but remained in the dugout for his final match.

The goal was created by Evesham man of the match Matt Dodd who came on as a substitute and crossed for Sullivan to slam home on the volley on 58 minutes.

Four minutes later keeper Lochlan Robertson’s own goal reduced the deficit to one when he could not gather a corner and the ball bobbled over the line.

And Dan Demkiv's flick into the net on 70 minutes levelled matters after a defensive mix-up.

However, Calvin Dinsley regained the lead for the Robins on 76 minutes with a fierce 15-yard drive following Dodd's left-wing cross.

And in injury-time Dodd's goal stretched Evesham’s advantage to 5-3 with a curling effort into the top corner.

The Robins manager Carl Abbott said: “Another step in the right direction.

"Above all else right now we are asking for intensity and desire and it’s there for all to see.

"Gradually the confidence will come back and naturally the lads will start moving the ball again and it even began to creep in on Saturday on a shocking playing surface.

"The impact the players who have been missing have had speaks volumes. I’m pleased for the lads and for the supporters."

The Robins' next league test is at home to play-off rivals Melksham Town on Saturday (3pm) but first they host Bromsgrove Sporting in Monday's Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final (7.45pm).
