EVESHAM United's bid for a Worcestershire FA Senior Cup shock semi-final result turned into a nightmare.

The Robins were hammered 6-0 by clinical higher-ranked side Bromsgrove Sporting at the Jubilee Stadium on Monday night.

Sporting showed why they had reached the top of Southern League Premier Division Central with a powerful display.

Carl Abbott's Evesham side had picked up their first win of 2020 with Saturday's 5-3 success at Mangotsfield United in Division One South.

But the county cup contest proved a step too far for the Robins who now host play-off rivals Melksham Town in the league on Saturday (3pm).

The hosts started in promising fashion as Matt Dodd was just beaten to a Kai Tonge flick by the keeper.

But Sporting grew into the game and a close-range Harry Higginson header went over.

Then the visitors were awarded a penalty on 25 minutes for Tom Chamberlain's foul on Josh Quaynor and forward Richard Gregory made no mistake.

A smart finish from inside the area by Mikey Taylor made it two on 36 minutes and a headed goal was quickly added through Charlie Dowd.

Lee Chilton shot wide from an angle after being played through by Brian Smikle as Evesham looked to pull a goal back before the break.

But another clinical response from Sporting made it four six minutes into the second period after the Robins failed to clear with Dowd on target.

Sporting's Liam Spink struck the post with a volley after a triple substitution for the home side.

But Dodd had to come off injured 15 minutes from time for Evesham, leaving them with 10 men.

And Bromsgrove took advantage with a 25-yarder into the bottom corner on 77 minutes to seal Dowd's hat-trick followed by a Shaquille Mcdonald tap-in four minutes later to complete the scoring.

The Jubilee Stadium will host the final on Thursday, April 16.
