LITTLETON won 2-1 in their tough trip to runaway West Midlands League Premier Division leaders Shifnal Town on Saturday at the Acoustafoam Stadium.

The visitors started brightly as they were determined not to be just another victim of an impressive Shifnal side.

Chances were few and far between in a close opening half-hour with Toby Wilcox called upon a couple of times for routine saves but nothing else from the home side.

Littleton took the lead on 35 minutes as captain Ben Billingham curled a free-kick towards the far corner and it was headed into the goal by a defender.

The visitors were full of confidence and doubled the lead as Billingham turned on to his right foot before curling a wonder strike into the far corner.

As expected in the second half the hosts came out like a wounded animal and immediately drew Wilcox into a save.

The visitors still looked dangerous on the break though as Ben Markall and Jourdain Masidi saw efforts blocked before Billingham fired over.

With 15 minutes to go Shifnal really turned the screw and forced Wilcox into a flying save down right before he then tipped over another effort from distance.

In injury-time a mistake in midfield let the hosts in and Kyle Montague fired past Wilcox to leave an edgy final minute.

But the visitors stood strong to claim all three points in what was only the third league defeat for Shifnal all season.

Littleton's home match with Worcester Raiders on Tuesday and the trip to high-flying Bewdley Town this Saturday were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The FA have suspended all football until April 3.
