CITY boss Ashley Vincent reckons any needle with ex-Heather players and management now at Romulus will be a thing of the past.

Opposite number Jason Lanns and his staff moved en masse from Heather St John’s to the Roms over the summer, taking the bulk of the squad with them to Castle Vale.

City endured three spiky battles with the Saints last term, losing all three without scoring a goal against a feisty side that snapped and snarled its way to victory.

There was also a flashpoint at the end of the clash at the Victoria Ground with City officials launching a formal complaint over “obscene gestures” which chairman Steve Goode described as “disgusting” at the time. Lanns argued the incident had been “blown out of proportion”.

Seven of the 14 players who represented Romulus at Lye Town on Saturday played for Heather last season. An eighth, Kyle Burke, is available again after suspension for tomorrow’s Midland Football League Premier Division clash at Claines Lane (Wednesday, 7.45), while the ninth, goalkeeper Stuart Parsons, is still suspended.

Many City fans looking at the potential line-up have not forgotten but Vincent is focusing on what lies ahead.

“I have a different side this season and so do they,” he said.

“There are some similarities with personnel, particularly with the management teams, but I have been to see them and they play a different way, which is natural because they play on 3G.

“I am not concerned about them or what they do, my focus is on my players showing what they can do. I will set them a game plan to work to with the aim of being ruthless and clinical like they were on Saturday.

“I went to watch Romulus play last Monday, it would have been naïve and disrespectful of me not to do that given the chance, but we go to try to impose our tactics on other teams. I have said that to the boys many times and cannot now hold a different view myself.

“If we play like we did on Saturday then Romulus will be in for good game and if we are clinical, we are hoping to get league points on the board.”

Meanwhile, Vincent revealed tweaks could be made to City’s side despite a strong showing in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Walsall Wood in the FA Cup.

“There’s no hiding we have a squad with depth and quality and we have a lot of boys disappointed not to be getting on the pitch at times,” he added.

“I have to manage that to keep up morale and when it is time to put them in, I will do.

“After the performance from the team that started (on Saturday) it is hard to take a shirt from someone, as it was (after the performance) at Rugby Town.

“That said, I thought that going into Newark away and it probably was not the right team to play in that game and environment so we have to be careful.”
