WORCESTER City will await a referee's report before deciding whether to act over an incident between Coventry Sphinx goalkeeper Tom Cross and a spectator.

The flashpoint occurred when Cross was walking behind the goal near to supporters while making his way towards the changing rooms having been sent off during Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Claines Lane.

City secretary and safety officer Kevin Preece told Worcester News he had received allegations that Cross had thrown some rolled up sock tape towards a member of the crowd who "then reacted" but that he had no further details at that point.

Chairman Steve Goode said the matter would be handled by Preece should man-in-the-middle Ryan Grandison's report flag up any problems.

"I have spoken with the safety officer but now we have to wait to see what happens from here," said Goode.

"We will have to assess what the referee has put in his match report and then take it from there but for now we are still yet to hear anything.

"The safety officer is in charge of these issues and will handle the incident. He will come to me if there's anything to take action on."

A representative for Coventry Sphinx and Cross politely declined to comment when approached by Worcester News.
