MALVERN Town's Buildbase FA Vase adventure continues after dumping Rothwell Corinthians out of the competition in a lively affair at the HDanywhere Community Stadium on Saturday.

The 3-1 over the side from the United Counties League Premier Division means Town are into the hat for the second round thanks to goals from Harry Clark, Matt Turner and Joe Billingham.

The hosts went ahead after just two minutes when Clark headed home from a corner before they being pegged back immediately when Callum Plowright equalised for the visitors.

Matt Turner tucked home a penalty on the 13th minute following a hand-ball in the box to restore the lead and despite Corinthians having plenty of the ball and creating chances, Malvern kept them out.

Rothwell continued to enjoy large spells of possession but the game was decided in the 75th minute when Nat Gosnall-Tyler's free-kick for the visitors was saved and from the rebound, Malvern went on the counter-attack, ending with Billingham firing home to seal the win.

On his return to the side, Town's Phil Harris praised his side's "togetherness and determination" to get the result.

"The team were unbelievable,” he said.

“It was a massive effort from everyone to get the victory over opponents from a higher level..

“It’s always nice to beat a team from a league above and that will add to our confidence levels for the battles which lie ahead, including the next round of this competition.

“We’ve started the season really well and there’s an amazing squad here this season and it has showed with the performances that we have put in.

“There is good competition within the squad and both Dene and Lee have done so well in getting this group together.

"The new lads have all slotted in well and there’s a real togetherness and determination with plenty of strength in depth.

“We’ve also been given superb backing from the fans. They are always amazing, and have been so throughout my time at the club."
