WORCESTER Women’s Hockey first-team put on a clinical display in an impressive 7-0 win over Bournville on Sunday afternoon.

In what was likely to be the last hockey fixture before the national lockdown comes into place, Worcester were deadly in front of goal as they cruised past their opponents.

The home side started strongly putting Bournville under pressure and soaking up any attacks from the visitors thanks in the main to the regular use of a half court press.

Worcester were dominant but could not make it count until Emma Hughes finally got the opener with a sweet strike.

Creating lots of chances and piling players forward, they eventually added a second through Julie Harwood and Worcester went into half-time 3-0 up due to Rachel Humphries slotting it past the keeper on the reverse after a short corner routine.

The second half started in much the same vein with the home side creating chances and more space beginning to appear as Bournville tired.

They extended their lead further when some good work down the left from Ava Thornley saw her get to the byline before cleverly threading it through the keeper to make it four.

It became 5-0 shortly after when Lucy Merrett slammed one home thanks to Emma Gardner's pass from the right hand side.

Worcester were now in full-flight and the sixth came when some great team work down the left hand side of the pitch enabled Rachel Hughes to calmly play the ball through to left back Lyndsey Beynon in the circle, who drove across into space and smashed the ball past the Bournville keeper.

Ava Thornley continued her good afternoon showing when she put the icing on the cake late on to make the final score 7-0 to Worcester.
