MALVERN Town goalkeeper and new fan favourite Keiron Blackburn has expressed his delight at Town’s exceptional start to the 2020/21 campaign.

Malvern sit top of the Hellenic League Division One West with a nine-point lead over second-placed Thornbury Town and have won nine of their opening ten league games.

As well as their impressive league form, Town also made it into the second-round of the Buildbase FA Vase two weekends ago, when they beat Rothwell Corinthians 3-1 at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

The second-round draw was made last week and Town learned they would face Atherstone Town, the side that knocked them out of the same competition last season.

Blackburn has impressed with his assured performances and commanding attitude and is excited by what the remainder of the campaign holds in store once they are able to return to action next month.

“As we go into the Lockdown, these are exciting times for the club,” he said.

“We’ve made a really strong start to the League and it’s always nice to go on a Cup run for the excitement it brings, so hopefully we can continue making progress in the Buildbase FA Vase following last weekend’s excellent victory over Rothwell Corinthians.

“This is plenty to look forward to once the action gets back underway.

“I must say that the support this club gets every game - home and away - is incredible and it’s what every club at this level, and the level above, could wish for.

“I know it’s a cliché, but it really does make a massive difference to the whole team so when we get back in action, let’s keep it going and keep it loud!”

Malvern are set to return to action on December 5 with an away trip to Newent Town in the league.

The national lockdown meant that Town’s season was suspended at the start of November.
