WORCESTER City’s temporary manager has said he is enjoying his spell in charge of the club but insists he wants to get back to playing as soon as possible.

Craig Jones has started his reign with two wins and a draw, including the derby win over Stourport Swifts on Boxing Day, but admits the job is a challenging one. “It’s been difficult and busy,” he said.

“You might think I am doing an OK job off the pitch but then you might think it’s because I am not playing that we are doing well on it.

“In all seriousness, I came to steady the ship in the interim period, however long that period might be. I’d like to think the chairman and the board know there is no rush with making an appointment, they can take their time.

“If it’s an extended period, I am happy to keep going with it and for now I am happy being in interim charge.

“But long term I want to get back playing myself.” Jones is awaiting the results of a scan to assess the damage before he can return to playing again.

“I had a scan last week and was told the results would be with me in seven days so today or tomorrow I could get an answer,” he added. “A waiting game, unfortunately.”
