WORCESTER Warriors' new recruit for next season, Duhan van der Merwe has been named in Scotland's 35-man Six Nations squad.

Worcester supporters will be able to get a good look at him competing on the international stage as the tournament kicks off on February 6, where Scotland face England at Twickenham in their first match.

The 6ft 4in tall and 16-and-a-half stone strike-runner was confirmed as a Warrior for the 2021/22 campaign having made a try-scoring debut for Scotland against Georgia at Murrayfield in October after completing a three-year residential qualification at Edinburgh following a move from Montpellier.

Van der Merwe scored further tries in the win over Italy in Florence in the Autumn Nations Cup in November and another in the defeat by Ireland in Dublin in Scotland’s most recent international a month later.

Duncan Weir and Cornell du Preez have not been included in Gregor Townsend's squad for the 2021 Six Nations campaign.

Weir was heavily involved in the autumn for his country and whilst du Preez was in the squad throughout, he didn't ever make the matchday 23.

But now both will be available for Worcester over the next two months as the Premiership returns.

In any other season the Premiership would not play many games whilst the Six Nations is played out but due to the nature of this unusual season, the fixtures come thick and fast so it is a boost to have Weir and CdP available.
