Severn Stars’ Jane Taylor says her team need to play to their strengths when taking on Vitality Netball Superleague newcomers Leeds Rhinos on Monday (7.15pm).

Leeds sit in seventh, with one more win on the board than Stars, who earned their first victory of the season last weekend and Taylor said this result had given the team a real boost of confidence.

“The whole Stars team is buzzing from our recent matches,” she said.

“Getting that win against Storm has definitely made us more determined and given players a confidence boost ready for the next few matches.”

“Every match is important to us, but it is especially crucial to keep the momentum and performance of the last two games and gain those all important points on the board,” she said

“From previous matches Leeds have shown that they are a physical and clinical team and we will need to be strong and play to our strengths, play our own game.”

Taylor combines elite netball at Stars with her Sport and Exercise Science undergraduate studies at the University of Gloucestershire, which jointly owns the Superleague franchise alongside the University of Worcester.

She has progressed through the Severn Stars pathway, first being selected for the Severn Stars inaugural Under 17 National Performance League (NPL) team, then progressing to play in both the Stars Under 19 NPL and Under 21 NPL teams, before making her senior debut in the 2021 Superleague campaign.

Echoing Taylor’s sentiments, fellow Stars player, Lucy Harris, said after the Team Bath game that the side was pleased with the performance.

She added: “We pushed Bath all the way to the final quarter. We just need to work on our consistency for all four quarters as we know that we can go goal for goal against these top teams. We made a number of turnovers; we just need to convert them to goals.”

Stars take on Leeds Rhinos on Monday, March 22, at 7.15pm, which will be shown on Sky Sports
