Worcester swimming club have launched their crowdfunding campaign ‘Whoosh’ in order to raise necessary funds for the club.

With pools closed for long periods over the last 12 months, reduced numbers in training due to social distancing and events that bring in vital income cancelled, a large financial hole has been left in the club’s funds. The campaign hopes to reach out to members past and present as well as the wider community.

Mark Stowe, head coach said “We see this as a fantastic opportunity, not only to raise funds for the club, but to engage with our members during lockdown, get our swimming community involved in a common purpose and have something positive to look forward to, after such a difficult 12 months.

"The exciting news is that we have also been successful in receiving match funding from Sport England. They will fund 30% of our target, but we have to reach the 15k target in order to receive it.”

The latest raffle added to the crowdfunder includes GB merchandise donated by the club’s very own Silver medallist at the Rio Paralympics and World Champion, Rebecca Redfern plus kit from club member Matt Richards, who recently represented the New York Breakers in the International Swimming League.

Both swimmers are aiming for Tokyo this year. There are also generous contributions from swimming legends Jazz Carlin and Hannah Miley, a signed jersey from Worcester Wolves Basketball team and a signed cricket bat from Worcestershire County Cricket.
