WASPS' Ben Morris has received a three-match ban following his red card during their 23-19 win over Worcester Warriors last weekend.
The incident occurred in the 58th minute of the game when referee Ian Tempest adjudged his high-shot on Ollie Lawrence was direct contact from his shoulder to the head of the Worcester centre.
Warriors' couldn't make the most of the man advantage in the end, despite leading when Morris was sent off. The Wasps flanker has had the ban reduced from six weeks to three due to his clear disciplinary record.
The disciplinary panel, involving Charles Cuthbert (Chair), Bobby Graham and Tony Wheat, said:
"The Panel considered the case on the papers and had regard to the video footage, the written submissions from Wasps and from the RFU. The Panel agreed with the submissions that the appropriate entry point for this tackle was mid-range. There was direct contact between head and shoulder and whilst there had been another Wasps player involved in the tackle, the player accepted that the other Wasps player’s involvement had not had a material impact on the height of the Worcester player.
"The player accepted the charge as soon as he was able, has a clear disciplinary record and the Club positively engaged in the disciplinary process. The Panel considered that the totality of his mitigation ought to allow him the maximum 50% reduction from the entry point. He is therefore suspended for a period of 3 weeks.”
The Wasps man will miss the remaining games of the season against Northampton Saints, London Irish and Leicester Tigers.
