FORMER Worcester Warriors' winger Bryce Heem scored a memorable Super Rugby Trans-Tasman hat-trick last weekend as he helped the Auckland Blues to a 48-19 win over the New South Wales Waratahs.

Heem, 32, has started both games in the New Zealand and Australia combined competition after only starting two Super Rugby Aotearoa, but has helped his side to the top of the table including the trio of tries on Saturday.

He ran for a game-high 193 metres on 10 carries, with six clean breaks, a trio of defenders beaten as well as crossing the line three times.

The winger cut sort his time with French Top 14 giants Toulon early to move back home to New Zealand and join the Blues after departing Sixways in 2019.

Heem enjoyed four successful years at Sixways in which he scored 32 tries in 70 appearances for Worcester.

Following his hat-trick, Blues' head coach Leon MacDonald was full of praise (source: Stuff.co.nz).

“Bryce was exceptional,” observed MacDonald.

“That intensity he brought in chasing kicks and his willingness to compete … those type of acts spur the team.

“He’s played a lot of top-level rugby. If he makes a mistake he moves on quickly and his next action is a good one. At times we can stack errors, and he’s a good example there, and being a bit older he’s able to problem-solve on the go.

"He’s still got plenty of pace in those old legs too.”

The Warriors' supporters fan-favourite Heem said there was still life in the old dog yet.

"I don’t feel 32," he said

"I don’t feel like the wheels have fallen off or anything like that. I always said when I stopped enjoying it I would hang them up. I don’t know how long I’ve got left, but as long as I’m enjoying it and the body hangs in I’ll keep going.”
