WORCESTER Warriors have signed current British & Irish Lions and Scotland international prop Rory Sutherland from Edinburgh.

Sutherland, 27, will join fellow Lion and Scotland teammate Duhan van der Merwe at the Warriors next season after signing his deal.

After losing Nick Schonert in the summer, as well as the likes of Richard Palframan to Newcastle Falcons and Callum Black to retirement, Worcester have acted in the shop window.

But few would have imagined Warriors would have been able to secure the services of such a high-class loosehead prop; one who looks likely to start for the Lions this summer in the Tests against South Africa.

Sutherland played in the warm-up exhibition clash against Japan (pictured) last weekend when the Lions won at Murrayfield, 28-10.

Having began his young career in the back-row, Sutherland moved to the front-row when he started senior rugby in Scotland with Hawick RFC. He signed for Edinburgh in 2014 and has since gone on to win 16 caps for his country.

He is well known for his carrying ability as well as his scrummaging, which ticks all the boxes that Warriors require.
