A Worcester martial arts gym is in celebration mood after a pair of big wins.

Three Points Martial Arts, based at Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, saw two of its coaches claim impressive victories over the weekend.

Dave ‘Demolition Man’ Khalsa won in decisive fashion at Battle Arena 62 on Saturday July 24, beating Nick Heyes by way of knockout after just one minute and five seconds of the opening round.

This was the ninth professional match of Khalsa’s career, a career which started promisingly when he beat Conor McGregor’s training partner Cian Cowley in his debut.

A series of defeats followed for Khalsa before he joined Three Points, a move which he hopes to be the turning point.

He said: “A big shout out to everyone who came to support me and everyone who watched it and my long-suffering family and fiancé who feel every win and loss with me and last but by no means least my team from Three Points Martial Arts Worcester. Thank you isn't enough, but I hope the victory can start to repay the faith and effort the team has shown me.

“Like you all have said, this is just the start, we build on this. MMA may be a solo sport but you're only as good as the people around you.”

There was also success for 16-year-old Dylan Saunders, who competed in an adult competition on Sunday morning, July 25.

In the British Submission Only Championships, in Alcester, Saunders won two silver medals in both the gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions.

Saunders said: “I wanted to test myself with this competition so decided to enter the adults division, even though it’s a wider and more dangerous rule-set.

“We have worked loads on heel-hooks and leg locks recently as well so it was nice to be able to put that to the test.

“It was great to show what you achieve if you put your mind to it and I’m looking forwards to competing again soon. Thanks to the coaches and all my training partners at Three Points Martial Arts”

It has been a successful week for the gym, which was taken over by Martin Saunders earlier this year.

He added: “I can’t even begin to say how proud I am of David and Dylan, or how nervous I was for them all weekend!

“They both did an amazing job, and it was brilliant to see them show-case their skills, and hopefully the added value the gym has given them.

“Both of them have worked hard for these events so above all, I’m really pleased for them that they got good results.

“We are always looking for new members also, so for anyone who’d like to have a go at our martial arts, check out our website or Facebook page to get a free week trial.”
