WORCESTER City will be without their captain Craig Jones when they face Coventry United in the extra-preliminary clash this Sunday (2pm kick-off).

Jones was injured in the first five minutes of City’s first pre-season clash with Cheltenham Saracens back in July and has been out ever since.

The foot problem he picked up continues to cause him some grief and Worcester boss Tim Harris confirmed the skipper would miss the trip this weekend.

Harris said: “Craig Jones won’t be available,” he said.

“Obviously it’s a blow as Craig is our captain and has that experience but we have others who now have the chance to prove why they should have the shirt.”

City’s unavailable list also includes midfielder Chris Withington, who is dealing with an ankle injury and won’t be involved.

The Worcester boss otherwise has a full squad to choose from as the blue and whites look to kick-start their season with a win up in Northamptonshire.

The game has been moved from Coventry’s regular home ground due to the stadium being unavailable and will be playing at Daventry Town.

City have won six of their seven pre-season games and head into the clash full of confidence.
