WORCESTER City manager Tim Harris is full of optimism ahead of his side’s mouth-watering FA Cup tie with Coventry United tomorrow.

Harris will take charge of his first competitive match as Worcester boss and he was in good spirits after City secured their sixth win of the pre-season programme with a 2-0 success over Kidderminster Harriers.

He said: “I think it’s important to look at where we have come from in the last six or seven weeks.

“The fitness levels are good, we have developed a competitive squad and they’re keen and enthusiastic and whilst we have said performances in pre-season are more important than results, it is about confidence and wins gives you that.”

He continued: “In all, pre-season has really ticked all the boxes. The culture within the club, the work ethic, desire and the balance in the squad is all good.

“But now we are just really looking forward to Sunday, it’s going to be a really big test.”

Harris has had his eyes on the opposition and has a good idea of what to expect.

“We have watched them three times now so we know what they’re about,” he added.

“They have been together as a group for quite a while and have a striker that’s attracting attention from teams at a higher level.

“We couldn’t have been handed a much tougher test in Coventry United so we need to remain grounded but we are looking forward to it and the challenges that lies ahead.”

The former Gloucester City manager has enjoyed the FA Cup in his career already with memorable runs while with Newport County and Cinderford Town.

He will be looking to his front man Daniel Westwood to provide him with even more cup joy.

“It’s a big game and they are a good side, I have played against them a few times,” he said.

“They won their first game of the season so will be confident but we don’t need to fear anybody.

“We have beaten sides this pre-season from higher leagues and we have to approach each game with that confidence and togetherness.

“Kicking the season off with a FA Cup game is a good one for the fans and it’s a chance for us to give back to them as well.

“We are under no illusions, we aren’t going to win the FA Cup but it’s always nice to have those cup runs to go along the league campaign.

“It’s something to look forward to – we can’t wait for Sunday.”
