WORCESTER City manager Tim Harris was left feeling proud of his players despite a last-minute goal from Highgate United denying them all three points on Wednesday.

City had led 1-0 until the 95th minute of the game after Archie Muirhead netted early in the second-half but Gate equalised with the final play of the match.

Former City player Aaron Brown's looping header secured a point for the visitors and despite dropping points for the second game in a row, Harris insisted his side are moving in the right direction.

"We know we have a lot to do to get to where we want to be," he said.

"It is only two games. I am looking at it and thinking should have, could have, six points. We have two, but it’s a long season and it will take time to get to where we want to be."

City were nervy and disjointed in the first-half but were a different team in the second and had a number of golden opportunities to seal the win before Highgate's late show.

Substitute Matti Klich had two of them and essentially, could have been the hero on the night.

"It was unfortunate for young Matti because he has had two great opportunities. One of those goes in and it’s game over and we don’t have to hang on.

"But he has to hold his head high. Yes, he could have had two tonight and we could have won, but that's how it goes.

"All you can ask of your subs is that they affect the game and he made the fans sit up and smile tonight.

"But to concede a goal like that in the manner we did, in the 95th minute, is sickening and the lads are distraught because they put a hell of a shift in today. You can tell the supporters appreciated that."

It means Worcester have started the season with two draws and whilst Harris knows there is plenty of work to do, he is confident that performances like the one on Wednesday will stand them in good stead.

"It is only two games. I am looking at it and thinking should have, could have, six points. We have two, but it’s a long season and it will take time to get to where we want to be.

"We are at the start of a journey. You can’t just go out and buy players, you have to work on your shape, your patterns and making it sure the players buy into what you want.

"A win tonight would have put us in the leading pack but performances like this will put us there.

"There is no need to panic, it's early days."

City now have a 10 days rest before their next game, which is on Saturday 28 away at Wolverhampton Casuals.
