WORCESTER City threw away an early lead as they were knocked out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in the second-qualifying round by Shifnal Town on Sunday afternoon.

A big crowd turned out to watch City, who took the lead early on thanks to a brilliant solo goal from D’oyen Fitchett.

Despite the promising start, the hosts seemed to take their foot of the gas and allowed their opponents to work themselves back into the cup tie.

Shifnal began to get their foot on the ball in midfield and started creating half chances, without truly working Ash Whitbury in the City goal.

But the equaliser came right on the stroke of half-time as a through ball found the Shifnal striker in space, and she pounced to lift it over Whitbury and pull Shifnal level.

In truth, the away side, a league below Worcester, looked more than comfortable and were the better side throughout the second-half.

Whitbury had kept City in it but with 11 minutes to go, a penalty was given, which Town’s skipper tucked home.

The home side pushed for a leveller but could not manage it and were dumped out of the FA Cup.
