WORCESTER City will be looking to build on impressive back-to-back wins when the travel to Romulus this weekend in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

City toppled high-flying Boldmere St Michaels in their last league fixture before they progressed in the FA Vase after an assured 2-1 win over free-scoring Lutterworth Town.

But consistency has, in the main, been the issue for Worcester, who have not been able to string more than two wins together in the league.

That being said, City have enjoyed a strong start to the 2021/22 campaign and sit fourth in the table with 20 points from 12 games.

Manager Tim Harris admits gaining some momentum is key to building on their encouraging start

"We said earlier in the season, after 10 or 12 games you tend to get a look at where a side are at,"

"Now we are just starting to settle, improving in a lot of aspects of our game.

"So far this season we have been inconsistent at times but I have said from day one, we just need to be there or there about come the business end.

"We are still building a team, a club if you like, and it takes time.

"You cannot just go out and sign 10 players and expect it to work; you have to blend them in, you have to work with them and that's when inconsistency can happen.

"But that's two on the bounce now where we have worked and deserved it so if you look at it, at the moment there are more positives than negatives."

One of those positives has been the impressive performances from the younger players within the squad, in particular those who have come through the age groups at the club.

Josh Schuck and Matti Klich both played starring roles in the Vase win over Lutterworth last Saturday and the likes of Cameron Monteith and Jake Whitehouse have also starred on multiple occasions in the first team.

Harris gave credit to his scout and also those involved with the reserve team for producing young players that he as a manager can be confident of calling on when needed.

"I have to give a huge shout out to my scout Stuart Watkins and also Steve Humphries and Andy Swatton in the reserve team - because you can't carry the amount of players we are carrying and we are fortunate to have a reserve side," he added.

"So we can send players there and get valuable minutes and when we need them, we can call on them.

"You can only give them that platform but I am a great believer in giving youth an opportunity and if they are good enough we will throw them in."

The reason Harris has been utilising the younger players is in part due to the large amount of injury problems the club have suffered already this season.

Striker Daniel Westwood has struggled with injury problems since joining, captain Craig Jones and Bobbie Dale are out long term and others have taken blows at various points.

Harris was also without first team members Aaron Roberts, Jamie Smith, Billy Shaw and Adam Harrison on top of that against Lutterworth.

George Baker rolled his ankle last weekend and remains out for the trip to Romulus.

But the good news is that Roberts, Shaw, Smith and Harrison will return this Saturday.
