PARENTS dropping off young footballers are creating parking woe for people living near a main road in Worcester.

A lack of appropriate parking is forcing the parents of young footballers to park along the busy A38 Droitwich Road causing problems for neighbours and safety fears.

But a city councillor has said there is no easy answer for Warndon Villages Football Club which uses Little Perdiswell.

Many of the players come from across the city with the rival teams sometimes driving for an hour to matches.

Cllr Karen Lawrance said they had been left with few options after the Park and Ride was built on and no suitable parking nearby.

She and fellow Claines councillor Mel Allcott have been trying to help find a solution to appease neighbours and the football club.

"It's great that children are involved with a good healthy sport and on Saturdays I appreciate everyone is rushing around.

"It would help if people would share lifts or there was a drop off system but then you have to have someone to receive them.

"I also appreciate that people want to stay and watch their children too.

"But there have been complaints from people living nearby about the parking.

"With the park and ride going it seems very short-sighted to me.

"The garden centre has put up a sign saying no parking for football, the Lidl car park won't be big enough, I don't think.

"The Raven and The Perdiswell pubs could have been used but those are blocked off.

"There is some parking at the school but again, I don't think that will be enough.

Cllrs Lawrance and Allcott are appealing for local businesses to get in touch if they have parking space that can be used.

Cllr Allcott added: "It has been more difficult for parents to park since the park and ride site closed.

"The Lidl store will be opening in spring of this year.

"I will be in touch with all stakeholders to see if a resolution can be resolved around this."

Warndon Villages Football Club has been contacted for a response and we will update the story when we receive a response.
