WORCESTER City manager said his side deserved defeat at AFC Wulfrunians as their unbeaten run in the league came to an end on Saturday.

City had not lost a game in the Midland Football League Premier since early October but goals from Ty Knight and Aaron Bishop either side of an own goal from the hosts had Wulfs 2-1 up at the break .

Worcester had a couple of chances as they looked to equalise but a late third from Thomas Poole secured the points for the home side and condemned City to a 3-1 defeat, which saw them drop down to fifth in the table.

Manager Harris admitted his side ultimately got what they deserved but hopes the result will act as a reality check.

"We started okay but then we got complacent," he said

"Our passing was not on it today and we gave the ball away a lot. We have to credit our opponents today, they closed us down, put pressure on us and we have to take that on the chin.

"Sometimes, these situations are a reality check, we can't expect to just turn up and expect results.

"The boys over the last few months have put in good performances but today I don't think we deserved anything.

"We started brightly but then we faded miserably, we didn't have a natural enthusiasm or desire and that was disappointing."

Worcester haven't played a league game in a month and the mid-week Worcestershire Cup quarter-final win over Evesham United was the first game the team had played since before the Christmas break.

But Harris was not about to use that as an excuse and wants to see a reaction when they host another play-off contender in Shifnal Town on Wednesday.

"That's no excuse for us," he added.

"We have enough talent to perform a lot better than that but it happens, we have to regroup.

"The lads have had a rollicking and they understand what's to be done. You cant' win football matches without desire and as a group and individually there were some really poor performances."

"It wasn't our day and we weren't on it but we have got to just get on with it now."
