WORCESTER City manager Tim Harris was full of praise for his young side on Wednesday after they came from behind to beat Shifnal Town 2-1 at Claines Lane.

Harris was seeking a response following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at AFC Wulfrunians and he got just that as goals from Bailey Fuller and Will Gibbons saw Worcester recover from going a goal down to go third in the Midland Football League Premier Division table.

"We made hard work of it but the boys put a shift in and they put their bodies on the line," said the boss.

"That shows great character from a young group.

"We started poorly and I think it was a bit of a hangover from Saturday I felt.

"But once we got passing the ball we started to create a fair few chances in the first-half.

"But Shifnal are a good side, with a lot of experience and we're a young group and I think the important thing was how we reacted to Saturday and we got the win tonight.

"I'm pleased but I am not going to get carried away. But overall I am delighted with the result."

City started sluggishly and fell behind after 15 minutes when striker and captain Matthew Barnes-Homer tucked home on the counter-attack to put Shifnal in the lead.

But City scored three times in three minutes between the 30th and 33rd minute through Fuller's curling finish and Gibbons' tap-in.

Worcester jump from fifth into third and just two points behind Lichfield City in second with a game in hand.

Harris' men take on another of the sides around them in the hunt for promotion in Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday in what is another big game in the context of the season.

"We have a few games in hand on a few of those sides towards the top," he added.

"We lost to Wulfrunians last weekend and they went above us but now we are back into third and as long as we keep picking up points we don't need to worry too much about what everyone else is doing.

"But the most important thing for us is that we look after ourselves. We don't get carried away and we keep our feet grounded and keep performing."
