WORCESTER City's post Christmas slump continued on Saturday as their promotion hopes were dealt another blow with a 2-0 defeat at Shifnal Town.
City had suffered a second defeat in seven days last weekend at home to Boldmere St Michaels and were looking for a response at fellow promotion rivals Shifnal but were hit with a one-two inside the first ten minutes.
Andre Brown flicked home past Adam Harrison after just eight minutes and it was 2-0 two minutes later when Matthew Barnes-Homer slammed home from 14 yards.
Bailey Fuller had the best chance of the game for the visitors before the break but he fired well wide when one-on-one.
The defeat was worsened in the second half as injury forced both Fortune Maphosa and Billy Shaw off.
City did get the ball in the box on numerous occasions but most of the play was broken down after goalmouth scrambles.
Jamie Smith had a free-kick tipped over the bar as Worcester pushed for an equaliser but otherwise it was another struggle for Tim Harris' men.
City now sit in sixth with 39 points and are now two points behind fifth placed Tividale.
