MANAGER Tim Harris admits Worcester City will have to produce a near perfect run-in to the end of the season if they are to make the play-offs after another defeat at the weekend.

Walsall Wood inflicted a fourth league defeat in five Midland Football League Premier Division matches for City on Saturday as a flurry of first-half goals eventually saw Wood win 4-3, leaving the hosts a point outside the top five.

Despite two late goals from his side, it was not enough to savage a point and now Harris knows it's an uphill battle from here to finish in the top five places.

"Unless we put eleven wins together, we aren't going to make it and that's a massive alarm call for us," he said.

"A lot of thought needs to go into next week and a lot of things need to change on the pitch in terms of our performances.

"But we have to still aim for the playoffs.

"We handled the first half of the season really well but to say we're in a sticky patch right now is an understatement.

"Unless we start winning matches we can right ourselves off and that would be a massive disappointment after what we have done so far."

The defeat was worsened with the injuries to both left-back Sam Whitton and top goalscorer Bailey Fuller.

The injuries are coming thick and fast for City but Harris won;t be using it as an excuse.

"It's not looking good on both fronts to be honest. Both players (Sam Whitton and Bailey Fuller) went to hospital for x-rays after heavy challenges and that's now another problem we are going to have to deal with.

"It's not been easy but it certainly won't be an excuse. We have players here who can do a lot better than what they have at the moment and that's not good enough.

"We have to dust ourselves down now. We have a week until the next game which could be a good thing but let's not forget we had a good win against Kidderminster in mid-week and played well.

"So hopefully we can get some injured players back and we can get back to winning ways next week at home to Haughmond."
