Worcester City fans face an anxious wait to find out if their clash with Haughmond will go ahead.

A pitch inspection has been scheduled for Saturday morning at Claines Lane in response to the recent wet weather.

First Storm Dudley, then Storm Eunice, battered Worcester this week, causing havoc for schools, businesses and motorists.

The outcome of the pitch inspection will be communicated to fans through social media as soon as it is available.

If all goes well, City will welcome Haughmond FC, who lie just one place off the foot of the table, ahead of Bewdley thanks only to goal difference.

In their last outing, Haughmond were beaten 3-0 at home to Lichfield City, leaving them with 16 points from their 27 league games.

City meanwhile were beaten 4-3 at home to Walsall Wood.

Three goals in the first half from the visitors proved a bridge too far for Tim Harris’ men who were only able to bring the score back to an albeit more respectable 4-3.

Off the field, City were boosted by yet another impressive attendance.

A club spokesman said: “We sincerely thank all Fans (owners) for the continued support for your club.

“Our attendance last Saturday of 525 was again one of the highest at our level and higher than most of the crowds in the next two levels above.”

Meanwhile the playing squad received a moral boost following a positive update on the recovery of Bobbie Dale, who was injured in a pre-season friendly.

"After a long seven months, I am finally starting to see some good progress”, said the former Cheltenham Town man.

“The next step is surgery this week to remove the screws and hopefully I will be back in training shortly. Fingers crossed you will see me on the pitch before the end of the season".

Elsewhere, numerous county fixtures have been called off as a result of the weather.

It was announced on Friday afternoon that Evesham United’s match was off.

Their opponents, Plymouth Parkway, tweeted: “With Storm Eunice causing problems and further bad weather projected by the Met Office, an early and sensible decision has been made to postpone tomorrow's fixture vs @EveshamUnitedFC. Stay safe this weekend.”
