BOLDMERE St Michaels produced a statement performance at home to Whitchurch Alport on Tuesday evening as they romped to a 4-0 win that puts them level with second-placed Lichfield City having played three games less.

The result was a significant one as it means The Mikes went third in-between Lichfield and AFC Wulfrunians, all of whom are now on 51 points.

City lie on 45 points, but have two games in hand on Lichfield and one on Wulfs, with only second place being good enough to ensure promotion this year.

Six of the best second-placed finishers across the Step 5 leagues gain promotion automatically, with the other four having to play a play-off with sides finishing third or fourth bottom in leagues at Step 4.

Worcester have ten games left and eight of those are against sides in the bottom half of the table.

They don't have a game this weekend but are next in action at Walsall Wood on Tuesday night, before clashes with Racing Club Warwick and Bewdley Town either side of a trip to Lye Town to come before finishing March with home game with relegation threatened Haughmond.

The final month of the season sees Worcester play five league games , with three of those against sides battling stay up in Haughmond (again), Uttoxeter Town and Wolverhampton Casuals.

They have the local derby with Stourport Swifts to come and they do still have to travel to league leaders Hanley Town, although they may well have the title tied up by then.

So the run-in is favourable for City but they have Whitchurch Alport (42 points) and Tividale (43 points) hot on their tail.

However, the positive for City even though they don't play this weekend, is that Tivi and Whitchurch are going head-to-head on Saturday.

Therefore, they will take points off each other either way but a draw for Worcester would tick the box and keep both side below them and everyone on the same number of games.

In the other game involving sides hunting the top two, Boldmere head to mid-table Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday afternoon.
