Captain Craig Jones is hopeful of making his long awaited return to action tomorrow night as Worcester City head to Walsall Wood for what is another must win game in their push to finish second in the Midland Football League Premier.

Jones has not played since suffering a broken ankle in a league game with Racing Club Warwick in early September.

The skipper has been a stand-in manager in Tim Harris' absence a couple of times this season during his lengthy lay-off and was the man on the touchline for City's 2-1 win against Highgate United 10 days ago.

He played for the Reserves on Saturday in a 2-1 win over Redditch United Academy and all being well, he will make a much welcomed return this evening at Walsall.

"I was on the bench for the last game and had to resist putting myself up front for the final ten minutes," joked Jones.

"But the rehab and recovery is going well and hoping to get some more minutes and be in and around the squad against Walsall on Tuesday (tonight).

"The gaffer (Tim Harris) will be back on Tuesday so hopefully, if he sees fit, I will get some more game time."

With City having last weekend off, they head into the game on the back of a 10-day rest and will be looking to avenge the 4-3 defeat to this evening's opponents last month.

Walsall put four past Worcester that day at Claines Lane and despite a late comeback making the score a little more respectable, Jones insists the performance has to improve ten-fold tonight to get three points and stay in touch with the top two.

"It's a big game for us really," admitted Jones.

"We got back to winning ways against Highgate United in our last game and it was a hard earned but vital three points for us that day.

"In terms of Walsall Wood, we lost to them at Claines and we were really, really poor that day so we owe it to ourselves to get the three points as much as we owe them really.

"4-3 flattered us in that game so we will be looking to go there and put that performance to bed and hopefully pick up another three points on the road."
