DEMETRI Brown scored an 88th minute winner as Worcester City claimed all three points at Claines Lane against Racing Club Warwick on Saturday.

Brown stayed cool to slot the ball past the keeper following Dan Westwood's flick on to keep City in the hunt for that second placed finish in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

The hosts had gone 1-0 up after Sam Whitton's cross was deflected in but Warwick equalised before the break through Dan Murphy.

But Brown popped up with the winner when it looked for all money Worcester were going to drop points for the second time in a week, as they just about stayed in touch with second-placed Boldmere St Michaels.

Having conceded a late equaliser at Walsall Wood in the week, City boss Tim Harris was pleased to see an upturn in fortunes on Saturday.

"Football is a funny game," he said.

"We got done by a late goal in mid-week so it was nice to have the roles reversed this week.

"It was a scrappy game and again we played on a heavy, heavy pitch which doesn't allow for great football and it's difficult to move it around but we got another three points today and it was a great finish by Demetri.

"We have to just keep grinding them out.

"Games at this stage of the season are always scrappy. Everyone is fighting for points and places and we're no different and we have to keep this going.

"I have to give a bit of credit to Racing Club Warwick because they have improved immensely in terms of their compactness and how solid they are.

"They made it difficult for us today so fair play to them."

The game also saw captain Craig Jones play his first minutes for almost six months after breaking his ankle back in September 2021.

Harris explained how vital it is for him to be back in the side.

"We have lacked his leadership and his experience," he said.

"It is not so much what he does on the pitch, it's more so his communication and his leadership and I have said that all along.

"So I'm absolutely delighted for Jonah. He's a great character and hopefully he can now kick-on in the side."

City have a week until their next league fixture when they make the trip to Lye Town on Saturday.
