Head coach Alex Gidman believes Worcestershire's fortunes are set to change as they prepare for their fourth successive away Vitality Blast fixture.

Gidman has been pleased with the side’s performances so far, despite losses in the opening three games.

The triad of defeats all came away from home and Rapids will once again been on the road when they travel to the Emirates Riverside on Wednesday to take on Durham, a 6:30pm start.

An unchanged squad will make the journey north with the 11 players who featured in Sunday’s defeat to Lancashire Lightning, plus Dillon Pennington and Gareth Roderick.

Gidman said: “We have genuinely performed well. Obviously, we know we could perform slightly better in certain areas, but that’s the same for every team in every match.

“We’ve been pleased with how we’ve performed and, on a different day with a little bit of luck and a few things going our way, those results are slightly different.

“Most importantly, if we keep trusting in the way the lads are playing and not try to reinvent the wheel, then I’m sure the results will start to take care of themselves sooner rather than later.”

Gidman noted the early performances of New Zealand star Colin Munro, who only linked up with the Rapids last Thursday.

He said: “Colin has been awesome. Two games and nearly helped to get us over the line in terms of two massive contributions, which is what you are after from your overseas player.

“As I’ve said about other overseas players, it’s also about the input they have on the group, and he’s been amazing in the dressing room already.

“He knows a few of the lads from his time with us before, but he’s settled in very quickly, had some really good chats with the players already and has played extremely well.”

Gidman added that Munro’s experience will be crucial.

“Experience is one thing we simply don’t have much of because of where the group is at, which is really exciting, to think we are playing as well as we are without the levels of experience,” he said.

“I think every team we have played against so far has had at least double the amount of T20 cricket in their team compared to ours.

“That is part of the journey, part of the learning is to try and soak it up as much as possible and to keep trying to improve game on game.

“To have the experience Colin offers in the group has certainly helped and will continue to help for the rest of the campaign.”
