FANS at Sixways were treated to a thrilling pre-season contest between Worcester Raiders and Halesowen Town, with the Step 4 side running out 5-3 winners.

Captain Joe Billingham twice equalised in a first-half that had five goals after Matt Funge had put the visitors ahead on both occasions.

Former Raider Rich Smith put Yeltz ahead at the break but Louis Monaghan's equaliser 20 minutes from time made it 3-3.

But Simeon Cobourne scored twice in the last 15 minutes to ensure Halesowen started their 2022/23 preparations with a win.

It was hectic first-half in which there were five goals scored.

Halesowen certainly started the brighter of the two and inside four minutes they took the lead as summer signing Josh Quaynor found Rich Smith at the back with a deep cross and the striker nodded inside to Matt Funge, who tapped it over the line.

But just 90 seconds has past before Raiders were level as a defensive mix-up at the back saw Joe Billingham lift the ball over keeper Dan Whitehouse and into the net.

The visitors were back ahead shortly after the 20 minute mark as Funge's long range shot was fumbled by Raiders' keeper Ryan Young over his shoulder.

But again Worcester came back and Jordan Murphy ghosted in behind the Yeltz back four before standing it up for an onrushing Billingham, who crashed the ball home first time.

Funge then turned provider as he crossed for former Raider Smith to finish off past Young and give Halesowen the lead at the break.

It was a more pragmatic second-half as both sides made changes.

Raiders started to push after 15 minutes or so of not seeing much of the ball and the equaliser came as number 20 crossed perfectly for Louis Monaghan to flick into the far corner to make it 3-3.

But the theme of goals coming in pairs in the game, it happened again, but this time as a bit of a fluke as Simeon Cobourne's cross was wayward but flew past Young and into the top corner.

Cobourne then added a second with time almost up to put some extra gloss on the scoreline for the visitors, who will have taken plenty from the clash.
