WORCESTER City's pre-season hit a high note this weekend as they thumped Welsh side Goytre 6-1.

In a dominant display for City, goals came from Dale, Brown, Taylor-Randle, two from Brain and one from Maphosa saw them run out comfortable winners in Wales.

Goytre play their football in the third division of Welsh football and played Paulton Rovers earlier this month, a side that play a league above City in Division One of the Southern League, and beat them 3-1.

City had been expecting a tough workout against the Welsh side, having lost 4-1 at Claines Lane to Cinderford Town last Friday.

Bobbie Dale gave City the lead with a deflected strike in the 10th minute.

The two sides had a relatively close first half, going in at half time with City 1-0 up.

Things remained close until the hour mark, when Fortune Maphosa made it 2-0 with a header from deep.

Two became three in the 73rd minute, when Sean Brain brought down a high pass, turning and shooting from 20 yards into the bottom corner.

Taylor Randle then scored another fantastic goal, this time from 25 yards to make it 4-0 on 78 minutes.

Brain then scored his second in the 81st, bringing down a through-ball, cutting inside and driving a low strike past the goalkeeper to make it five goals for City.

Goytre pulled one back five minutes later to earn a late consolation, before Demi Brown turned on the speed.

Bursting past the centre back, he lifted the ball over the keeper to seal the win for City.

With Saturday's comprehensive win out of the way, City next play on Tuesday night at Claines Lane, where Nuneaton Borough are the visitors.
