HEREFORD United's impressive return to form in Coca-Cola League Two has delighted manager Graham Turner.

Since losing three games on the spin for the first time this season, the Bulls have won three in a row to haul themselves back into the automatic promotion picture.

Victories against Rotherham, Dagenham and Redbridge and Rochdale in mid-week have seen United climb to third in the table, just five points behind leaders MK Dons with two games in hand.

That run also produced a barrage of goals as Hereford hit four against both Dagenham and Rochdale.

Turner said: "We are pleased with the comeback after three successive defeats, including the Cardiff defeat in the FA Cup.

"We have come back strongly and that's very pleasing.

"I am delighted with the manner in which we are playing and the chances we are creating but we are concerned with the goals against.

"It's a nervy time during the run-in and we have just got to hold our nerves.

"There's some decent sides up there and we are competing very well."

Hereford welcome ninth-placed Chesterfield to Edgar Street tomorrow looking to continue their excellent sequence and for a degree of revenge after the last time the sides met.

The Bulls suffered their heaviest defeat of the season in the 4-0 thrashing at Saltergate on January 21, which was shown live on Sky Sports. But Chesterfield have not won since that night and the result remains Lee Richardson's side's only victory in nine attempts.

The Spireites also missed an injury-time penalty in the 2-1 home defeat to fourth-placed Peterborough United on Wednesday.

"It's three vital points at stake," Turner said. "We are the only team they have beaten in about six games so it would be nice to beat them to get the three points and to get some recompense for the poor performance at their place."

On-loan strikers Sherjill MacDonald and Gary Hooper have been added to Hereford's squad since losing at Chesterfield and have played a huge part in the Edgar Street club's recent resurgence.

The duo have accounted for eight of United's last nine goals with Holland under 21 marksman MacDonald, on loan from West Brom, scoring a 17-minute hat-trick at Rochdale on Tuesday.

"His record is incredible, five goals in two games," boss Turner said.

"He's a quality player and we hope he can continue like that while he's with us."

Midfielders Ben Smith and Toumani Diagouraga are both doubtful for tomorrow's match with groin problems sustained in mid-week.

Captain Smith pulled up in the warm-up at Spotland and was replaced by Kris Taylor, while fellow midfielder Diagouraga made way for Sam Gwynne after 54 minutes.

Both Taylor and Gwynne could keep their places if Smith and Diagouraga miss out.

Chesterfield have no fresh injury concerns.
