CITY kick off their Midland Football League campaign this weekend, as Market Drayton pay a visit to Claines Lane.

Despite losing to neighbours Malvern Town in the FA Cup last weekend, City boss Tim Harris said he is not overly concerned with the performance.

Speaking after that 2-1 loss, he said: "I would be concerned if we weren't creating chances, but last weekend we had more than enough chances to have won two games.

"It's fairly obvious to all we need to be more ruthless though.

"We have a talented squad and I am sure we are on the right track."

City's Shropshire based opponents were relegated from the Northern Premier League Division One West last season, but Harris added he is expecting the Gingerbread Men to pose a tough challenge.

He added: "You cannot underestimate anyone at any level.

"You have to earn the right to win games and Saturday will be no different as Market Drayton beat a strong Shifnal side to progress in the cup."

Josh Schuck will be on the sidelines having picked up an ankle injury in a practice match and both Chris Withington and Callum Debar will not be too far away from fitness, but both may miss out on this weekend's tie.

Elliott Hartley has been struggling with the after effects of COVID, but is expected to be involved again following his instant impact in the FA Cup.

Malvern Town scored twice in four first-half minutes as they recorded a famous 2-1 win over local rivals Worcester City to progress to the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

895 supporters packed into the HDAnywhere Community Stadium and it was the home fans who were celebrating in the 23rd minute when Jack Horrell lashed one home

The Malvern supporters were then on their feet again just four minutes later as Ben Hayes made it 2-0 with a glancing header past Adam Harrison in the City goal.

Demetri Brown halved the deficit in the final 20 minutes but despite dominating the latter stages, Tim Harris' men could not find an equaliser and were dumped out of the FA Cup.
