BEWDLEY Town came from a goal down to begin their Midland Football League Premier season with an impressive away victory at Romulus last weekend.

Cameron Lee's header had given Romulus the lead in the first-half just after Bewdley had hit the post.

Town's Ben Worthington converted a 54th minute penalty to equalise and then Alex Quaynor's brilliant solo strike three minutes from time sealed the victory for Chris Cornes' men.

Having struggled for much of last season and only staying up due to their points per game average, an away victory at Romulus represents the best possible start to the new season for Bewdley.

Town's nearest rivals Stourport Swifts were not able to replicate that result as they were beaten 1-0 at this weekend's FA Cup opponents Racing Club Warwick.

The two sides will go head-to-head for a place in the qualifying rounds of the prestigious competition on Saturday but Racing gave themselves the psychological advantage for that tie after the narrow league victory.

Dylan Parker's 38th minute goal proved to be decisive in the end as a Swifts defensive error playing out from the back was punished by the home striker.

Both sides had numerous chances to find the net after the break and Swifts did hit the bar after the break but they could not convert and fell to a 1-0 loss on opening day.
