Malvern Town laid down a marker ahead of their eagerly anticipated FA Cup clash with Worcester Raiders on Saturday after a thumping 5-0 win over Lydney Town in their Hellenic League Premier clash.

Town, having lost their first game of the season at Hereford Pegasus last weekend, responded in the best possible way as they romped to a comfortable win.

Matt Turner scored a first half brace following captain Lewis Platt's seventh minute opener as Malvern took a 3-0 lead into the breaks.

The rain poured down throughout but it did not dampen the mood for the Hillsiders as a further strike from Lewis Spurrier and a Dave Reynolds late header completed a five-star performance.

Into Division One and it was another clean sheet and three points for Danny Janes' title favourites Pershore Town.

After an opening day draw with FC Stratford, The Plums' 4-0 win over Long Crendon made it three in a row to see them jump into second in the table.

After a 3-0 win over Littleton at the weekend, Aidan Clark gave Pershore a first-half lead.

Jamie Clarke scored his third goal in three games for the club to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Petar Tonchev then scored twice after the break to complete a convincing victory over a side that had previously been unbeaten.

Janes' charges will look to keep that winning momentum going when they return from a ten-day break at home to Littleton at the end of the month.
