IT was a day of celebration for Barnards Green Cricket Club last weekend as their eight-wicket win over Worfield saw them gain promotion to Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League.

Barnards Green knew that all they had to do was beat their visitors to North End Lane to ensure their place as runners-up behind champions Wolverhampton.

On what was his final appearance for the club, West Indies bowler Jerome Taylor signed off in the best way possible as his 4-36 help restrict the visitors to just 129 all-out.

George Rhodes (3-16) and Ben Clarke (3-19) provided the other wickets as Worfield had very little response to the home attack.

61 from the bat of Rehaan Edavalath in a second-wicket partnership of 94with Ollie Rogoff (38) saw the hosts to within touching distance before the latter and Rhodes (28) combined for 37 to see Green cruise to their target in just 24 overs.

There were jubilant scenes in the pavilion as Rhodes hit the winning runs and the party went on long into the night as the cricket club enjoyed perhaps their most memorable day in their history.
