WORCESTER City manager Tim Harris has resigned from his post, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The club revealed that the board of directors had called Harris in for a meeting on Wednesday and now, 24 hours later, the boss has walked.

It follows a woeful start to the 2022/23 campaign in which City have lost five of their six league matches in the Midland Football League Premier, as well as bowing out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Stewart Watkins (Head of Football Development) and Craig Jones (Player Coach and Captain) will look after first-team matters in the interim.

"Firstly, I would like to thank the many messages of support I have had in the last couple of days, especially with what has been a very difficult period for the club on the field," said Harris.

"As manager, I must take full responsibility for the teams’ performances and lack of results, whatever anyone says, the buck stops with the manager.

"On this basis, I felt it was right to tender my resignation as first team manager of Worcester City Football Club with immediate effect.

"I have spoken to the board of directors and have a great desire to help drive Worcester City FC forward off the field, I am willing to put time and effort in to making this happen and believe I can positively help the Club move forward.

"To assist the club in the interim I am pleased that Stewart Watkins and Craig Jones will look after first-team matters until a new appointment is made."

It brings to end a relatively successful stint as manager for Harris, who was brought in during the pandemic.

In his first and only full season (2021/22) he lead the side to their highest finish in years, ending the MFL Premier campaign in fourth position.

But five defeats in six league games, including Tuesday night's 3-0 home defeat to Bewdley Town, seems to have done the damage.

The search has now begun for a new boss.
