EVESHAM United manager Paul West wants his team to savour their championship success - but only after they have taken on Rushall Olympic.

The Robins wrapped up the British Gas Business Division One Midlands title in style last Saturday with a 7-0 thumping of Woodford United at St George's Lane.

They will be presented with their trophy and medals after Saturday's match at Dales Lane (3pm) but West wants his players to treat the fixture as they would any other.

Rushall still need a point to be sure of a play-off spot, while Chesham United could sneak into the top five if Evesham win.

West said: "We will approach the game as we normally do. The players will still want to put in a performance and we have got to respect other teams. Come 5.15pm, we will enjoy it but there's still a game to play."

But he admitted: "To win something like this over 40 games is a real sign of the character and the consistency of the players.

"It means the world and it's a real sense of satisfaction. I am so delighted for everybody at the club and, most importantly, the supporters.

"It's a proud moment and one we should cherish for a long time."

Evesham could be without a goalkeeper for the match as Nathan Vaughan is suspended and deputy Dave Adey is away on business.

Striker Gary Hay is also banned and defender Danny Hodnett is at a wedding so last Saturday's victory was all the more vital.

West added: "I can't remember when I've had a more comfortable viewing of our team this year. It was really nice for the lads to put in a performance when it mattered.

"The game was like a boxer knowing it was a 12-round fight with 10 seconds to go.

"There was no talk of play-offs, we just said we were going to win. We didn't take it for granted but we were 100 per cent positive."
