WORCESTER Nomads picked up 14 points for a winning draw with Old Swinford in their opening Worcestershire League Division One match of the season.

Nomads were put in on a pitch which offered considerable lateral movement in the early overs.

Opener Dean Oliver was bowled by Mike Hand, but captain Dannie Rees (28) and Malcolm Jones pushed on.

Rees was bowled by Seb Soukup and Jones was caught behind off Hand, but Damon Gariff (78) and Geoff Taylor (83) took the attack to Old Swinford, putting on 142.

The partnership allowed Nomads to post 277 for six from their allotted overs.

Oldswinford put on an opening stand of 85 but, after losing a clutch of wickets, they opted to bat it out for a losing draw.

Nomads Seconds travelled to Lye for their Division One game and had to settle for a losing draw.

The hosts posted 223 all out with Neil Thompson impressing for Nomads with 6-63 and Nic Lloyd chipping in with 2-64.

In reply, Nomads opening batsmen put on 45 before a few early wickets started to fall.

Reg Dixon (34) and Chris Bland (28no) steadied the ship, but the visitors had to settle for 176-7 from their 50 overs and a losing draw.
