Lewis Spurrier and Dave Reynolds scored two-apiece as Malvern Town prevailed in an eight-goal thriller at Lydney Town on Tuesday night.

The pair had Malvern 2-0 up at the break but Lydney scored twice in a ten minute spell after half-time to draw level.

Reynolds tapped the visitors ahead with quarter-of-an-hour to play before Joe Bates added a fourth and Spurrier scored a fifth late on.

Lydney pulled one back in stoppage time but Malvern had done enough for the three points, a result that moves The Hillsiders to within three points of Hellenic League Premier leaders Cribbs.

Town opened the scoring on 18 minutes when forward Bates did well to pull the ball back from the by-line for Spurrier to fire home.

Striker Reynolds was proving a handful for the hosts and he rattled the cross-bar in the 37th minute before he did find the back of the net when a neat passage of play ended with Harry Wickett’s low cross being turned home at the near post.

Despite the positive end to the half, the game was flipped on it’s head after just 12 minutes of the second-half as Lydney brought themselves level through Jordi Sheen’s brace.

Malvern made a habit of throwing leads away last season but it was to be a different story this time as three goals in nine minutes put the game out of reach for the hosts.

Malvern host Longlevens this weekend at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium, where they could go top of the league with a victory.
