IF the England selectors are looking for batsmen that are scoring runs, then perhaps they should take a look in our direction.

Stephen Moore became the first person in the country to score 500 first-class runs this season in the game against Gloucestershire and that is a fantastic effort.

There has been a lot of talk about Ravi Bopara getting 480 in his first five knocks, but that included some Friends Provident Trophy games.

Moorey' has been playing some fantastic cricket, he has gone back to the basics and he is seeing the ball and hitting it really well.

If he keeps doing what he is doing, he will put more bums on seats and he must be in the shake-up for England with the way that he is playing right now.

His opening partner in the four-day game, Daryl Mitchell, has been quietly going about his game in both formats and on Sunday he hit a career one-day best of 92.

Unfortunately, not enough of us hung around against Somerset to turn it into a match-winning knock.

He has been showing why he is a permanent fixture in both forms of the game and on Sunday he also bowled nine overs which he probably wasn't expecting - especially after taking a blow to his left elbow on Friday.

Daryl is a pretty feisty competitor and it must have been a hell of blow for him to go down.

Luckily it hasn't done any permanent damage and it wasn't his card holding hand - he is still dealing them pretty well because he is right-handed when he flicks them out.

Seeing Simon Jones get back-to-back five-fors has been fantastic and he must be so relieved that he can now just go about his business.

There has been a lot anticipation with him - he is our biggest signing since the days of Botham and Dilley. The weight of expectation has been immense and he has delivered.

Five wickets in a one-day game is a fair effort and then to back it up in a four-day match, on a pretty flat, slow, docile pitch, just shows his class and I'm sure that he'll be raring to go today and dare I say it - it could be a hat-trick.

It is great to see that Steve Magoffin has had his contract extended for the Twenty20 Cup.

He has been phenomenal both in the changing room and on the field.

He also thinks that he's going to get a few runs so maybe there is a bit more to come.

On Sunday, he showed why he got that extension with another fine bowling performance on a good pitch, taking three wickets.

Our chairman Percy Price's Flood Club has now reached 144 members with all those people donating money to the club after what happened last summer.

That is a fantastic achievement. For Percy to go out of his way to get people involved to help with what happened is brilliant.

Last Tuesday, all the boys turned out to have their pictures taken with the members of the Flood Club and it was a great day.

The games in the Friends Provident are now all must-win, starting today at Hampshire, and hopefully we can do what we did to them at home at their place.

You never go out to lose a match, but the mindset has definitely changed as we know that we need to win our remaining group games to go through to the quarter-finals so we need to go out all guns blazing.

All the boys at the County want to wish the Worcester Warriors good luck on Sunday in the European Challenge Cup final match against Bath.
