Worcestershire had to settle for a draw as the curtain was brought down on the 2022 season with a final day wash-out in the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Middlesex at New Road.

Heavy overnight rain meant there was no play before lunch and left the outfield saturated and umpires Nick Cook, in his final game as a first class umpire, and Rob Bailey eventually abandoned play at 12.50pm.

Worcestershire collected 11 points from the game – one for batting, two for bowling and eight for the draw.

It lifted their final tally for the summer to 194 points from 14 games, meaning the Pears finish the 2022 campaign in fourth, 31 points behind the second promotion spot.

Worcestershire ended with four victories four victories, against Leicestershire, Sussex and Nottinghamshire at New Road and Middlesex at Merchant Taylor’s School.

They drew seven other games and were beaten away to Nottinghamshire and at home by Glamorgan and Derbyshire.

Middlesex were able to celebrate being promoted back to Division One once the game had been abandoned.
