Worcester City's new management duo of Keenen Meakin-Richards and Graham Deakin have spoken for the first time since being appointed on Wednesday evening.

The pair were most recently at Hednesford Town in the Southern League (Step 3) but left back in August and have dropped down two levels to take the City job.

Meakin-Richards and Deakin admit it is a challenge but one they are excited to get stuck into.

"It happened quite quickly, within about a week," Meakin-Richards said to Worcester City TV.

"We had quite a few interests from a few clubs but the project that's here and the infrastructure to make it even better than what it is, it presents a big challenge.

"To get this club back to where it belongs is a massive challenge for us but we love challenges so when we looked at the job we thought it was right for us."

The duo took their first training session on Thursday night ahead of their first game in charge on Saturday as City welcome Uttoxeter Town in the Midland Football League Premier.

Meakin-Richards says the pair have done their research on the players at their disposal and added they would be bringing in new faces too.

"We need to get to know the lads in training," he said.

"We have done a lot of homework on a few of the lads, we spoke to Stewart Watkins, who has done a brilliant job in the last few weeks.

"We will be adding quality to the group as well. We will be thorough with what we want and the lads will understand how we want to play.

"It will take time, it's a process but we are confident we can get the best out of the boys here."

Meakin-Richards' co-manager Deakin explains that despite being out of the game since the end of August, the two have not wasted time in scouting around the non-league ladder.

"We have identified a few players having watched the last couple of games who we think will add to the group," he added.

"We have only been out the game for a short period of time but we were always out watching games so we have been seeing who is available for when we did find out next job.

"We have players in mind that suit the way we want to play."

City currently sit second bottom of the MFL Premier table with six defeats from eight games.

The form brought Tim Harris' tenure to an end and now the new managers have the task of trying to push Worcester back up the table.

Three points this weekend would be a good start.

"We watched Uttoxeter the other night to try and get familiar with them and this league in general," said Meakin-Richards.

"Trying to get a feel for what certain teams are about and what the standard is like.

"Ultimately we want to make Claines Lane a place that teams cannot come and pick up points. we want to be dominant here and that starts on Saturday."
