ENGLAND and Worcester Warriors prop Laura Keates has been ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup after she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training out in New Zealand this week.

Keates, 34, was preparing for the Red Roses' final group game of the tournament against South Africa, that they went on to win 75-0 and confirm their place at Group C winners.

A statement from the RFU confirmed Keates will remain in New Zealand for the remainder of the tournament with family.

England's win over South Africa sets up a quarter-final tie with Australia and the last-eight includes a number of Worcester players.

Wales squeezed into into the quarters despite losing their final group game against Australia on Saturday .

Ffion Lewis, Niamh Terry, Alex Callender, Sioned Harries, Natalia John, Carys Phillips and Caryl Thomas were all involved as Australia edged a tight encounter 13-7.

But the losing bonus-point was enough to secure one of the two best third placed finishers. They take on New Zealand in the last-eight.

There was more success for Worcester players as Paige Farries scored for Canada in their 27-14 win over USA to secure their third win of the tournament and progress from Group B as winners of the pool. They take on USA again, this time in the quarters.

In the other games, New Zealand thrashed Scotland 57-0, Italy beat Japan 21-8 and France beat Fiji 44-0.
