ALVECHURCH and Redditch United both secured their progress in the FA Trophy at the weekend to put themselves into the hat for the second round.

Church were playing in their final game before their highly-anticipated FA Cup first-round clash with League One side Cheltenham Town this Saturday and kept their recent good form going as they beat Nuneaton Borough 2-1.

All three goals came in a crazy four minute spell just before the hour as Danny Waldron opened the scoring in the 54th minute.

Nuneaton had not even finished celebrating Kane Richards bringing them level just three minutes before Tyrell Hamilton reestablished the lead less than 60 seconds later.

Nuneaton's goalkeeper Liam Castle was sent-off late on and Church held on through seven minutes of stoppage time to seal their progress in another cup competition.

Redditch were equally chuffed after 90 minutes of football thanks to a 3-1 win over AFC Totton.

Bernard Mensah's header gave the Reds a 13th minute lead before Danny King made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Totton halved the deficit from the spot shortly after the restart but despite the away side throwing everything at Redditch, they withstood the pressure and Reece Flanagan converted a penalty of his own to seal the deal a minute from time.

The draw for the second round is made at 1PM on Monday October 31 with National League North and South sides entering the draw at this stage.

The second round will take place on Saturday 19th November, where the winners will receive £3750 and the losers £1000.
